Hotel Options

La Zebra offers world class service and you will have an amazing view of the beach. Some rooms offer the option of a plunge pool which is amazing if you have younger kiddos who are still learning to swim. It also helps them to still be able to swim, even when the sun is at its peak, because they are in the shade.

La Zebra also has a larger pool that is around 2ft deep and is a great place to play games.

Next to the open restaurant is a play area with swings and a teeter-totter, giant connect 4, and monkey bars!

Ana y Jose

Ana y Jose is wonderful and offers something most hotels don’t. Hotel suits with 2 rooms and a living room and TV. It also offers a combination of one bedroom rooms and private houses. Some of their places also have private pools.

Airbnb’s in Town/Aldea Zama

Tulum offers a wide range of options for airbnbs! We highly recommend reaching out to Justine, an Airbnb Superhost that can help you find exactly what you are looking for. She specializes in luxury condos that allow your family to have a private area all to yourself all while enjoying the pool and the magical beauty of Tulum.

SCUBA Diving Cenotes in Tulum

Tulum is known for spectacular things, the food, the culture, the beautiful beaches but there is one thing where Tulum shines above the rest of the world and that is SCUBA diving in cenotes.

Tulum is known for spectacular things, the food, the culture, the beautiful beaches but there is one thing where Tulum shines above the rest of the world and that is SCUBA diving in cenotes.

Cenotes are the entrances to the underground river system. The ancient Mayans believed that these were the entrances to the underworld. The rivers are made up of fresh water that stay at 77 degrees, no matter what the outside temperate. They are fantastic places to explore year round. Of course you can snorkel through these magical freshwater caverns but to get the full experience we highly recommend going SCUBA diving!

There are a few options that allow everyone from beginners to pros to get the most out of a scuba diving trip.

Beginner

So you’ve made it to Tulum and want to try your hand at a new skill, go out of your comfort zone, or even check something off of your bucket list. Amazing!

The best place to start is a Discover scuba dive. Here you will learn the basics and dive right in ( get it haha) to the experience.

If you absolutely love the experience, you can sign up to do your Open Water Course. With this you will be able to Scuba dive in wonderful places all over the world. Your Discover Scuba dive counts as your Day 1 of your open water course and so you just need to do the last 2 days and you will be a certified diver. That is after you take a 1 hour open book test. You can dive in magical places like Dos Ojos and Tajmaha,

Intermediate

The way to gain access to the mindblowingly incredible deep dives in Tulum is to do your advanced course. Over the course of 2 days you’ll gain experience in completing 5 adventure dives including a deep dive to 30m/99ft. Under water navigation and 3 more adventure dives in various areas.

We love diving with Adventure Tour Center and they are ready to take you exploring in a world unlike any you have seen before!

The hotel zone is filled with these amazing restaurants but today we will give you our best recommendations for the more hidden gastronomic wonders. That way you can enjoy the best authentic Mexican food Tulum has to offer.

Remember that Tulum is a cash only kind of town so make sure you stop at an ATM before heading out!

Breakfast food

If there is something Tulum does well are its breakfast tacos. One of our favorite spots is call Don Honorio Taqueria. It is located in Tulum town, every taxi driver will know exactly where to take you. There are 5 types of tacos and our recommendation is that you order 1 round to try all of them!! Then, after finding the ones you like the best, you can order more.

On a good day I can personally eat 4 tacos max!

They also offer a great selection of Aguas Frescas (Fresh Waters)- Watermelon, Jamaica, Horchata, Tamarin, and lime to enjoy with your meal or an authentic Mexican Coke!

Dinner

For dinner, on the treats you must give yourself while in Mexico is an order of Tacos Al Pastor, preferably with some delicious salsa! La Chiapaneca fulfills off of these criteria. Tacos are around 7 pesos each and mindblowingly delicious! You can get them with cheese to make a quesadilla. Each taco comes with onion, cilantro, and a pineapple which helps bring out all of the flavor. Add the final touches of lime and some delicious salsa and viola! A dinner you’ll remember forever.

Family Friendly Cenotes in Tulum

Going to Cenotes in Tulum with kids is one of the definite highlights of a trip to this magical area. There is no other place outside of the Yucatan Peninsula that you can find cenotes, and in Tulum we are lucky enough to have the most beautiful ones you have ever seen just a quick drive away. Thankfully, your favorite vacation babysitters can give you the best tips!

Whether you are staying in the hotel zone or the town, all you will need to do to get to a cenote with your kids is call a taxi. Now, at the majority of cenotes you will not be able to get cell service to call the taxi when you are ready to get picked up. The best way to coordinate this is to set up a pick up time with your taxi driver for them to come get you. Adventure Tour Center also hosts amazing tours that will take you exploring and take care of all of the details.

We recommend giving yourself at least an hour to hang out at the cenote and ideally you can stay for at least two! Please bring a sun shirt because cenotes do not allow you to use sunscreen!

Cenotes are usually pretty deep, so for kiddos who are not strong swimmers or tend to get tired easily we highly encourage bringing some floaties. If you do not have any, no worries. There are some cenotes that rent out life jackets.

Here is our list of the best cenotes to go to in Tulum with kids.

Cenote Corazon

This is a more local cenote that has crystal clear water with lilly pads! There is some food/snacks available for purchase and some tables with shade that allow you to hang out for a good amount of time. You can also buy a fresh coconut from the venders! You will have to bring your own floaties. Entrance fee is around $3/$4

Gran Cenote

One of the most famous cenotes and for good reason. This cenote is a combination of an open cenote and a cave. You will also be able to see little turtles swimming along. This cenote has snorkels for rent and just need and ID they can hold onto so you can use a life jacket. There are plenty of places to sit and picnic but they do not sell any food. Entrance for kids over 5 years old is $9.

Cenote Zacil-ha

This cenote is so much fun!! There is a zipline that runs over and you can jump into. The water is amazingly beautiful and it is about a 20 min drive from town. The entrance is only about $3/$4. This cenote is great because it is not usually very crowded.

We have lots more local tips if you have questions or would like to go to a cenote with kids that is off the beaten path.

How’s the COVID Situation in Tulum- an insider look with your favorite babysitters

As of right now Mexico is one of the few countries that allows American tourists. This means that the pristine beaches, wonderful food, and natural serenity are only a quick flight away. The Cancun airport is taking lots of security measures to keep travelers safe, as are the businesses in Tulum. The great thing about Tulum is that it is very easy to socially distance, all of the hotels and restaurants are small businesses that have outdoor eating areas.

The beaches are expansive so there is a chance you’ll have a pretty large area all to yourself.

Most restaurants and hotels are open but if you have any questions about a specific place, please feel free to reach out and we will get you the most up to date information.

We look forward to seeing you.
