Heading to the Tulum Ruins With Kids
The ruins in Tulum are a spectacular sight, a perfect place to see the breathtaking beach in all its glory. Here are some of our local tips for heading to the Tulum Ruins with kids:
· Remember to pack lots of sunscreen and water. Even though the Ruins are comparatively small, and take about an hour to walk through, there is very little shade in the area.
· Try to get there was early as possible. The Ruins open at 9am and at that time there are very few people and the ocean breeze keeps it fairly cool.
· Do your best to go any day except Sunday. On Sundays, locals get discounted and sometimes free entrance to the Ruins which makes it a more crowded day than usual.
· Entrance is cash only and is 40 pesos per person. With an extra 30 peso fee if you want to bring a video camera.
Babysitter Advice for Managing Mosquitos
Coming to the Caribbean means pristine beaches, amazing cenotes, and wonderful food. Of course, the Caribbean also has mosquitos that love to come out in the early morning and evenings. Here are our babysitter approved recommendations of the best way to deal with mosquitos.
First, make sure you keep the mosquito net closed, even during the day. This is the best way to make sure none of them get trapped and bother you at night. We love repellents that contain Citronella (a natural repellant) but OFF! is also a great option to put on before heading out to dinner. Most pharmacies here in Tulum carry repellents that you can buy when you arrive.
For babies, wearing PJs with long sleeve/pants can help keep them protected at night. We always make sure to keep the fan going because it makes it harder for the mosquitos to fly and gives us a good night’s sleep!
